How to Create a Successful Loyalty Program

Loyalty programs are a way of rewarding customers through deals, discounts, gifts, and a variety of other special offers.

While discounts are a standard customer incentive in loyalty programs, there is a lot more than your program needs to provide if you are going to stand out from the pack.

Offering a variety of different rewards helps convince customers about the value of your loyalty program, as well as keeps things fresh and exciting. These programs are a bit more complicated to implement than a straight-up loyalty rewards program, and you need to ensure that you are offering your customers value without spending too much of your own money.

Benefits

One of the key benefits of a loyalty rewards program is that it increases your customer's lifetime value and encourages repeat purchases. Offering rewards and benefits through loyalty programs, such as free shipping, an extended warranty, or a tangible gift, like a free concert ticket, gives customers a reason to stay, even when competitors offer better prices.

Discounts

While discounts, free shipping, and special benefits cannot create enduring loyalty commitment, discounts still play a significant role in getting customers to enrol in your loyalty program. Rewarding customers who are recurring customers helps you keep them sticking around, ensuring that they will not desert you for a more compelling deal.

Rewards

No matter what the industry or vertical of the business, businesses can reward customers for loyalty by offering them unique benefits that help them stand out from their competitors. Not every retailer can create a devoted, loyal customer base without offering rewards and incentives. Rewards need to be practical and meaningful for customers, like discounted coupons, exclusive offers, and so on. The loyalty program must have rewards that allow customers to feel that joining is worth the effort in order to receive the things that they want.

Timing

You do not want customers waiting too long to redeem rewards, otherwise, they are more than likely to forget that they are even signed up for a loyalty scheme. Knowing your customers helps you gauge which rewards are going to mean the most to them, and which types of loyalty programs they are likely to participate in, for instance, if they are comfortable carrying yet another plastic card around their wallet, or downloading a dedicated loyalty app.

Points Based

If yours is a points-based loyalty program, ensure that customers have clear information about how they can earn new points, where they can access their balance, and the ways in which they can redeem their points. For instance, if you are offering cash-back rewards through your loyalty program for customers, attach a cash value to your points to help customers visually understand how much they could earn (and spend) while continuing to buy from you.

A loyalty program, also known as a rewards program, is a marketing strategy in which brands reward customers by offering them discounts, cashback, benefits, and incentives in order to enhance their overall experience and establish customer loyalty.
